This woman got fired for blogging about her job and wants to warn you not to do it or suffer a similar fate.

I don’t talk about co-workers in my blog. I don’t talk about my bosses or any of the typical shenanigans that go in any corporate environment (although there is plenty to talk about).

But I do talk about the industries I know something about and sometimes I curse while doing it.

Because we should be getting pissed off about the things that are wrong and praising the things that are right. The people on the front line of any organization are the ones that “own” the process–they know where the gaps are and they know how to fix them. And the company that gets down off its high horse, recognizes this enormous opportunity for positive change, puts the tools in place and then unleashes the creative energy of their frontline is going to set themselves up for continued success forever and ever.

And all this can be done without naming names or even naming the company…and the only cost is technology, a bit of training and enduring a couple of curse words.

I talk about what works in the industries I know and what’s not working (and try to make suggestions on how to fix them). I consider myself a powerful tool of leverage in the free market, a consumer and producer that likes to talk about the things he buys and sells.

This woman was fired for “not being professional,” but I say she was being ahead of her time. The companies that continue to ridiculously maintain control over the communications both inside and outside their firewalls are going to end up just like the Emperor in Star Wars, falling down a long chasm to a fiery death.

If you are one of these controlling corporate arseholes, please see The Cluetrain Manifesto for further education.
