I can’t stand watching the 24-hour news channels anymore. I lived and breathed Fox News for three years. O’Reilly, Hannity and Colmes and Fox and Friends in the morning. I couldn’t get enough. But round about the end of the 2004 RNC Convention, I canceled my cable and stopped listening to talk radio. Amazingly, independent thoughts began springing up in my mind again. I delved fully into using RSS feeds and multiple online news sources for my primary reservoir of information. And now I can check the independent box on my voting card and really mean it.

But every now and then I’ll come across a snippet from a cable news show that moves me. I’ll admit it–I was pissed off when Bush pardoned (excuse me–commuted the sentence of) Scooter Libby. I don’t believe that Presidents should pardon convicted criminals. I believe they should have the right but the right should only be exercised in the most extreme cases of injustice. It’s like farting in a room of mixed company–it’s only acceptable if you have diarrhea and even then there is a certain amount of inviolable shame to go along with the act. Scooter Libby is a yes-man douche and he deserved what he got. For Bush to pardon him shows that he has no respect for the law and any respect I had for him has just been expelled like the fart he just made in this crowded room of Republican Democracy.

Watch all ten minutes of this Olbermann video. He’s right.
