I never cared much for James Bond movies when I was a kid. In fact, the first Bond movie I ever sat through was Goldeneye and I ended up watching that when my parents rented it and there was nothing else on. I enjoyed that and Pierce Brosnan quickly became my favorite James Bond. I went to the theatre to see every Bond after that one and usually on the opening weekend. I was dismayed like many others to learn that Pierce Brosnan was stepping down from his throne as the best Bond ever (I know many of you are going to say Connery was but you’re wrong) and was being replaced by a blonde haired blue eyed hunky type dude who supposedly couldn’t even drive a car.
So, I stayed away from Daniel Craig and I stayed at home the weekend that Bond 21 opened.
I heard from many that the film was actually pretty good, that Daniel Criag Triple Exed the franchise up, that he was the muscle that the Double O needed to compete with The Bourne Identity series. But I still stayed away.
Until this past week. I broke down and bought the DVD. Holy cow! What a fantastic film. The special effects were amazing, the stunts surprised me and had me flinching back at times (especially all that high climbing shit in the beginning). But beyond that, the story line and depth of character were surprisingly deep for a Bond movie. They really went into the character of James Bond and set the stage for a complete remolding of the franchise from the ground up. It has already been leaked that Bond 22 will be a direct sequel of Casino Royale, a definite first for the series and I imagine we’ll get to see exactly what happens to the secret agent now that he’s been betrayed by the only woman he ever loved.
I give a big thumb way way up and while I’m still not convinced that Daniel Craig is better than Pierce, he’s off to one hell of a start. Plus, just watching that bastard made me want to go to the gym at 11:30 at night.

I’ve been thinking Hollywood will do a sequel to “300″, regardless of what Frank Miller does, but what will they call it? “301″? “300 II”? “300 More”?
