Plyometrics

I’ve decided.

I’ve committed.

Now I’m going to succeed.

Yes, I’m about to join to the ranks of the P90Xers of the world. And no, it wasn’t an impulse buy. I considered the options for weeks. Did I want to keep my $55 a month gym membership and possibly pay a personal trainer or did I want to move this party home?

I recorded the infomercial by mistake, thinking it was a documentary on weight lifting (it was titled “Get Ripped in 90 Days” on my DVR on the Discovery Channel. But I watched the whole thing and was intrigued. Here’s what I liked about the pitch:

  1. It was all about hard work. There aren’t any shortcuts with this program. It’s straight up sweating, grunting, lifting and pushing weight around.

  2. Tony Horton is a name I’ve heard before. He has brand recognition which always makes purchasing easier.
  3. Tony Horton has that harmless smart ass demeanor that anyone in their right mind would be seeking out in a personal trainer. Someone to get you motivated, keep it light-hearted, and keep you focused the entire time.
  4. The pull up bar is nothing short of amazing. For only $50, I now have a removable upper body lifting machine that I can put in any doorway with a frame in my house.
  5. The eating program and supplements are familiar to me and ring true with my understanding of solid nutrition
  6. I’m very excited about the diversity of the program. From lifting to cardio, yoga to plyometrics, Kenpo karate to focused stretching.
  7. I am familiar with, have used to a small degree, and agree with th philosophy of muscle confusion to promote maximum health and lean muscle growth

So, I quit the gym. I have started planning out my meals for the first phase. I have started scheduling out the times of the day and working on the logistics of where and when my workouts will happen and I’m pulling the trigger starting Monday.

I took all the “before Day 1 measurements” and the ridiculous “Goodbye photos” where you have to pose in the most ridiculous stances but which should make the “after” photos look all the more amazing once you’ve put 90 days of control and sweat into your body.

I have decided. I have committed. The only left is to succeed.
