I was outside mowing the lawn today when I looked up and saw my wife motioning at me from the kitchen window. I shut off the mower and walked up to the window. She was laughing, almost in hysterics. Finally, she got the story out.

My 20-month old daughter, who is a regular jabberjaws, was getting her hands washed by my wife. When out of the blue, she says to my wife, “Daddy can’t wash his hands. Daddy’s an idiot.”

We have no idea where she heard the word or why she thinks I can’t wash my hands but at 20 months old she’s already seen the dirt under my nails and the limits of my intelligence.

I just can’t win anymore.
