I just finished reading Dave Cullen’s amazing expose Columbine and I am reeling. I knew when I started reading it that I would be digging into some sensitive areas of my psyche but I had no idea how deep those scabs went and how painful it would be when I hit the live tissue. The first thing I learned reading this book is that I had no fucking clue what really happened at Columbine; I only knew what the media erroneously reported and what became myth had very little to do with reality. The myth of the bullied, video game addicted, death-metal loving, weaklings who huddled together under the shelter of the fabled Trenchcoat Mafia, to target their athletic popular oppressors was, from the beginning, complete and utter bullshit.

Teach Your Children Well: Where the Red Fern Grows and the Old American Work Ethic
It’s no secret that the youth of America have an entitlement issue, many feeling they are owed the American dream simply because they were born under the banner of the US flag. The Protestant work ethic, the scrimping, the saving, the scrutinous sanctimony that accompanied all major purchases for most of the lives of our [...]
Finding the Human in the Being: Tim Russert’s Final Words
There are tragedies in literature, tragedies in politics, history and theater; rarely are there tragedies in the American news media. Perhaps the largest of these media tragedies is the loss of Tim Russert, a man whose supernova of a heart was too big to make it the average male’s life expectancy. When he went, he [...]
The Letter Project: Where Letters Go To Live
The art of personal letter writing is considered by many to be a dying one. Unique in format, the personal letter can be a perfect blend of literary and private exposition, a format which seems to be on the verge of extinction in an age of incessant streams of tweeting diatribes and impatient screaming sound [...]
The Function of Education By Jiddu Krishnamurti
This talk given by Krishnamurti is something I read often on Sunday mornings. It’s as close as I’ll ever get to going to church. This text was obtained from this site where you can read many of Krishnamurti’s works (and I highly recommend that you do). I’d recommend buying the book also.
