Joshua Minton’s Online Pulpit : My Answers to the “Honest Blogger Quiz”

OK, so I lied about Tony Pierce. I swore I’d never read his site again after the last little skirmish we got in but I’ve been keeping up with him from time to time frankly because despite the millions of blogs out there, it’s really hard to find writers who consistently put out engaging work and despite all his faults (of which we all have), Tony is a great writer.

Annually, he posts his Honest Blogger Quiz and I have chosen to respond this year because my answers have changed since last year. I encourage all my readers who also have blogs to post their answers on their own blogs and then provide a link to their post in the comments section of this post.

1. which political party do you typically agree with? Libertarian

2. which political party do you typically vote for? Republican in the past but those days are over. See this post for more background on this decision.

3. list the last six presidents that you voted for? bush ‘43, bush ‘43

4. which party do you think is smarter about the economy? Libertarian

5. which party do you think is smarter about domestic affairs? Libertarian

6. do you think we should keep our troops in Iraq or pull them out? Pull them out now

7. who, or what country, do you think is most responsible for 9/11? The Saudis but the United States is partially culpable in the social effects which lead to the negative worldview in the Middle East which produced 9/11

8. do you think we will find weapons of mass destruction in iraq? Not now

9. yes or no, should the u.s. legalize marijuana? Without a doubt, beyond question, indubitably YES!!!

10. do you think the republicans stole the last presidental election? No

11. do you think bill clinton should have been impeached because of what he did with monica lewinski? No, but technically he was impeached for lying under oath to a grand jury about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

12. do you think hillary clinton would make a good president? Absolutely Not

13. name a current democrat who would make a great president: Al Gore is the best one I can think of

14. name a current republican who would make a great president: Ron Paul but he’s a Libertarian in Republican disguise

15. do you think that women should have the right to have an abortion? Yes but they should also be given information on all the other options

16. what religion are you? Agnostic–I don’t believe in fairy tales but I know there is an underlying source of truth that exists beyond our illusory separateness

17. have you read the Bible all the way through? No but I have read the New Testament–all that begat shit in the Old Testament lost me

18. what’s your favorite book? The Inner Reaches of Outer Space: Metaphor as Myth and as Religion by Joseph Campbell

19. who is your favorite band? Tool

20. who do you think you’ll vote for president in the next election? Undecided but leaning towards Ron Paul if he gets cut from the Republican nomination ticket and runs as an independent

21. do you think President Bush and Vice President Cheeney should be impeached? Almost but when my mind is made up there will be no changing it.

22. do you think it was a coincidence that gasoline prices have nearly tripled and oil company profits have hit record highs while there was a US President whose family made its fortune through oil? No, the whole thing stinks to high motherfuckin’ heaven

23. do you think President Bush is the worst US President ever? and if not, who is? No, Woodrow Wilson was a racist douche bag idiot who got the US involved in a European Civil War (started by a fanatical Muslim, mind you) which lead to an entire century of misery as well as the current War on Terror we find ourselves in.

24. do you think Iraq is going through a civil war? Unfortunately, yes

25. now with all that the US has gone through, do you think it would have been better for the nation that George Bush had never been elected president? No, the problems are so far beyond Bush–it’s the corporate cabal of lobbyist groups, think tanks, arms manufacturers and oil/gas/energy Executives who would have hijacked this government regardless of who was in charge.
